Doing the best to what seemingly small

Its now 1959 hours, Dec 28, 2009.

As I am clearing my office emails as well as personal emails, I came through an email that carried a quotation that goes :

"Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves."

                       - Dale Carnegie, 1888-1955, Writer and Speaker

I personally belief in this quotation. In my 2 cents opinion, if we don't start from scrap in anything we do, there is a chance that we will never start to master in what we plan to specialize in.

A week ago, Dec 22, Tuesday, right before I left for home, I received stack of papers with a note stating :

"Kah Peng, I didn't manage to filter out. Sorry" - The Intern

When I saw this note, I immediately queried our department's intern on why she has not completed the assignment that was assigned to her some 30 days ago?

To ventilate my frustration as well as mix feelings of being conned by 'an intern', I told her that she is very irresponsible and she should have informed me earlier if she cant take up the assignment.

Without thinking of the repercursion of what she was going to say, she said :

"Kah Peng, I am NOT obliged to do what you've assigned. I am hired by T (T is our superior and was then away), therefore I will only work on things that T assigns. Whatever I do for you is only a favor!"

Her statements were so sharp. I was stumped with what she uttered!

By saying that, she has actually showed me her true colors: both aptitude and attitude. Her mental aptitute is as shallow as a bowl and possess very strong negatively irresponsible and lazy attitude.

After a week of knowing how irresponsible she is, today,  I have found out that there are other assignments which she has not completed...
hmmphhh...

If she doesnt tune her aptitute and improve on her attitude, there may be a sure bleak future for her.
